BOWLING FUNDRAISER A HUGE SUCCESS!
On 16th July, 49 members of NAS Stafford, their friends and family, got together to enjoy a fun night of Bowling to support NAS Stafford. Together they helped to raise over £500 to continue the Tweens Bowling club in its current form.
NAS Stafford were extremely grateful to Stafford Ten Pin for donating ten lanes to us; they are always welcoming and accommodating to our Bowling Club and last night was no exception, we couldn’t have been better looked after.
We were also joined by The Mayor of Stafford, Jenny Barron, and her husband Ray, who met our families, had a great chats with them, and even brought sweet treats for the children to enjoy. The children were fascinated by the mayoral chains of office, especially by how heavy they were. Jenny herself said that she thought her bowling improved because she was wearing them!
Our Mayor’s daughter and granddaughter are members of NAS Stafford, and we would like to thank Lisa for suggesting they come along to our fundraiser. It certainly made the evening quite special!
Strikes, competitiveness (I’m looking at you, Marie!), high fives, spares, and a fair few groans were involved, but a good night was had by all!
Volunteers Tracey, Nia and Nicki supported the event and even got in a bit of bowling practice themselves. Nia and Nicki run the monthly bowling club, with support from Volunteer Zea; without our amazing volunteers none of our events and activities could go ahead.
Bowling club was lucky enough to be granted funding from the borough council last year to enable it to grow. That funding has run out, but last night gave us the opportunity to keep going as we are for another 8 months or so.
The Club is very popular! We attract new members all the time, and the feedback we have received has been hugely positive. Our young people make friends, gain skills and enjoy a social activity which is supported and safe, but also part of their wider community. Parents and carers can enjoy watching their children have fun but also chat amongst themselves, making new connections and feeling less isolated.
Again, massive thanks to Ten Pin Stafford, Mayor Jenny Barron, our members and our volunteers!
