MAKING A SPLASH WITH NAS STAFFORD!

Every half term and summer holiday, NAS Stafford tries to book a dedicated swimming session at Stone Leisure Centre.

We know that many of our families love swimming and also spending time together in a supportive and understanding environment. Swimming is also great exercise, as well as a chance for children to socialise with their peers. Our sessions offer all of this, being exclusive to NAS Stafford families.

We have lots of fun floats in the water, and the deep end is reserved for stronger swimmers. Three lifeguards are on duty, there is a hoist for those with mobility issues, and there are plenty of options for getting changed. The centre even has a much needed ‘Changing Places’ facility. Siblings are always welcome.

As we rely mainly on donations, we are very grateful to the support from Chris Miles, Treasurer and Charity Steward of Sheltonia Masonic Lodge No. 8557, based in Stone. Chris, along with his colleagues, has enabled our sessions to go ahead for the last three years. We were happy to welcome Chris and his wife Pam to our Half Term event on Wednesday 28th May 2025! They loved seeing everyone enjoying the water!

Of course, we wouldn’t be hosting this activity without someone having a very good idea in the first place; former committee member Julia Carter, and current committee member and volunteer Tracy Moon suggested swimming as a regular activity, after speaking to some families at another event. Tracy, who is local to Stone, knows the Leisure Centre well and thought it would be an ideal spot for us to try out a family swim. Stone Leisure Centre is small enough to be friendly and not over-busy; the facilities are excellent and there is free parking very nearby.

Thanks to Chris, Sheltonia Lodge, Julia and Tracy, for giving up to 60 NAS Stafford members the regular opportunity to make a splash!
